Monument V1 Guards Chapel

De Guards Chapel (voorheen Royal Military Chapel) te St. James Park is het religieuze thuis van de Guardsmen. De kapel is in 1838 gebouwd en bevindt zich bij de Wellington Barracks in Londen. Op 18 juni 1944 werd de kapel geraakt door een V1, juist terwijl er een dienst plaatsvond. Hierbij kwamen 121 mensen om het leven.

De tekst op het monument luidt:
IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO DIED IN THE DESTRUCTION OF THE GUARDS CHAPEL ON SUNDAY 18TH JUNE 1944

During the morning service, and immediately after the reading of the Lesson, the Chapel received a direct hit form a flying bomb. The roof collapsed, and with the exception of the Apse, the whole building was destroyed.

The names of the 121 people killed are recorded in a Book of Remembrance at the entrance of the Cloister.

Na de oorlog werd de kapel herbouwd in moderne stijl.
