Herdenkingsbomen Tonge Mill Park

Deze boom, een eik in Tonge Mill Park, herdenkt de zeemannen van de de marine die zijn omgekomen in de Eerste en Tweede Wereldoorlog, en de conflicten daarna.

Tekst op het monument:
This Oak Tree was grown at Torry Hill on the Estate of Lord Kingsdown K.G. former Lord Lieutenant of Kent. He kindly donated the Oak to the Royal Naval Association (Sittingbourne Branch) to commemorate the Sailors and Royal Marines, who gave their lives in two World Wars. 1914-18, 1939-45 and conflicts since, in all parts of the World.

They shall not grow old, As we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, Nor the years condemn, At the going down of the sun, And in the morning, we will remember them.

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

Tekst op het monument bij de herdenkingsboom voor de koopvaardij:
This Oak Tree is dedicated to the Men and Women of the Mercantile Marine who gave their lives in the cause of Peace, in two World Wars and subsequent conflicts. We thank them for all their sacrifices made in our name.

On all the Oceans, white caps flow. You do not see crosses row on row, For those that sleep beneath the Sea, Rest in Peace; for your Country's Free.

This tree is donated for this Memorial by Mr Frank Marsh in memory of his wife Gracie Marsh.
