Tanglin Barracks is a former British military complex in Singapore that played a significant role in both World War I and II. The 1915 Sepoy Mutiny occurred there, when Indian soldiers mutinied against their British officers due to rumors of being sent to fight in World War I. The mutiny was quickly suppressed, but led to the execution of several mutineers. Today, the barracks have been converted into a mixed-use development, while the range where the mutiny took place remains a public park.

During the British colonial era, the Tanglin Barracks had a gun range that was heavily utilized for target practice. Today, there are two remains of the firing trench and two fire targets in the area, which served as the practice targets for soldiers from different companies aiming at a target 15 yards away. Before World War II, soldiers of all ranks and service times used the range to improve their short shooting skills. However, during the Japanese occupation, the range saw little use except for one or two instances. When the British returned to rule Singapore, the Ministry of Defense took over the barracks and repurposed the area for registration of recruits for basic military training and other admin work. However, as more advanced training facilities were built nearby, the range became redundant and was no longer utilized.
