Gedenkteken Crashlocatie AVRO Lancaster Mk.III ED976

Een herinneringsplaquette op vliegveld Teuge ter nagedachtenis aan de zes omgekomen bemanningsleden van de geallieerde Lancaster bommenwerper die in Teuge op 12 juni 1943 is neergestort na een aanval van een Duitse Messerschmitt.

Staartschutter Linton Stephenson overleefde de crash.

Namen van de slachtoffers: W.F. Bradley, E.N. Cummings, C.B. Fleming, G. Glover, J.W.Lake en A.B. Magill.
De plaquette is op 12 juni 2021 onthuld in het bijzijn van de Burgemeester van Teuge (gemeent Voorst),
een luchtmacht luitenant kolonel, een Canadese landmacht kolonel en Canadese luchtmacht sergeant.

Tekst op de plaquette;
On June 12th 1943 a four-engined RAF Lancaster Bomber crashed on it's return flight from a bombing raid to Düsseldorf, Germany. After being hit earlier by German flak, the Lancaster was shot down at 02:45 AM by Luftwaffe Lt. Werner Rapp flying his Messerschmitt 110.
This AVRO Lancaster Mk.III with serial ED976 belonged to RAF No.100 Squadron, part of No.1 Group in RAF Bomber Command and took of from Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England.
In total, this squadron lost 113 Lancasters during the Second World War costing the lives of 539 young crewmembers.
The names of the brave and young RAF-RCAF crew who were killed in the Lancaster crash are mentioned on the monument to be found on the other side of the airfield. The rear-gunner F/Sgt. Linton Stephenson was able to bail out, became POW and survived the war.
