When his company was running desperately short on ammunition near Ohlungen, France, Private Boedewig volunteered to return to the supply dump and secure an additional supply. Fearlessly braving the intense artillery concentrations falling in the area and the sporadic small arms fire, he returned with a heavy load of ammunition and distributed it to the men in their foxholes. Private Boedewig's prompt and courageous action enabled his comrades to prepare for an expected enemy attack. Entered military service from Aurora, Illinois.
