    Raymond Collishaw werd op 22 november 1893 geboren als zoon van John Edward Collishaw en Sarah "Sadie" Jones.

    Voor verdienste tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog ontving hij de Croix de Guerre (1917), de Distinguished Service Cross (20 juli 1917), de Distinguished Service Order (11 augustus 1917, 21 september 1918) en de Distinguished Flying Cross (3 augustus 1918). Hij behaalde tijdens deze oorlog 60 overwinningen.

    In 1921 werd hij Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). Tevens ontving hij de Mentioned in Despatches (31 december 1918, 31 maart 1920, 10 oktober 1922) en Officer of the British Empire - Civil Division (1 juli 1946).
