Biografie

William Grime meldde zich in 1941 bij de opleiding tot bemanningslid en nadat hij met zijn vliegopleiding was begonnen ging hij kort daarna naar de bombardementsopleiding. Hij kreeg in 1943 zijn officiële aanstelling en begon op 21 juni 1943 operationeel te vliegen bij 467 Squadron.
In mei 1943 begon Grime bij 463 Squadron aan zijn tweede tour. Zijn Lancaster werd op 21 februari 1945 tijdens een aanval op het Mittellandkanaal bij Gravenhorst door een Ju 88 neergeschoten waarbij de helft van zijn bemanning, waaronder piloot en squadroncommandant, de populaire en bekwame Wing Commander W.A Forbes, D.S.O., D.F.C. om het leven kwamen. Grime overleefde het, werd gevangen genomen en opgesloten in Stalag XIIID en Stalag VIIA totdat hij in mei 1945 werd gerepatrieërd.
